Remembering Who I am Leaving
©Caitlin Dunbar, 1999 (age 10)

I know you are here,
you are always with me.
You help me move through life.
I will never forget you,
for you are too hard to forget.
It is sad not to see you,
for you have always been good to me.
In my heart I will never forget
the friendship between us.
And, when you are not near me,
when I'm sad,
I will remember you always.
Together forever,
even when we're apart.
I will always remember you.
Always.

Friends
©Caitlin Dunbar, 1999 (age 10)

You and I will be friends,
forever and ever.
You will be there for me
and I will be there for you,
for better,
or worse.
We will be friends,
forever.
I promise.

Change
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2000 (age 11)

The world changes,
but everything must go on.
The world doesn't end,
it just changes.
People must get used to change,
or they will die,
from suffering,
because they do not understand.
We must go on,
no matter what.
We must survive,
through good and bad.
We can do it,
nothing is standing in our way,
but ourselves.
That change will happen,
whether we like it or not.
It will come,
and if we do not understand it,
our world will end,
in a brief second.
We will all die,
because we couldn't understand change,
that horrid thing that can destroy us,
for good.
So we must let change happen,
Forever.

Life
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2004

Life is like a river,
always moving.
Sometimes it’s fast,
sometimes it’s slow,
but always moving.
You can’t stop it,
or make it go back.
You have to keep moving,
right on with it.
But sometimes it is hard.
You have to face many obstacles.
Sometimes you just feel like quitting,
but you can’t,
because you can’t stop a river,
till it reaches the sea.
Then it is gone,
just like you.
It went on to a better place,
as will you.
But while you are living,
there will be ups and downs,
good days and bad days,
but you will still trudge on,
till the day you die,
and your life ends,
Life

Love
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2004

The moonlight shines down on me,
as I sit alone by the lake,
thinking, wanting, hoping
for you to come.
The stars sparkle and light up the lake.
Suddenly you come,
and I watch as you slowly
walk over and take my hand.
Cautiously we start to dance,
and it is like we are the only ones on earth.
We stop.
You prepare to leave.
I stop you,
but you must go.
You kiss me.
Then you leave,
and walk up a beam of moon light
to the heavens,
never to be seen again by anyone,
except me.
I go.
But every full moon,
I go to the lake and wait for you,
to come and be with me.
And I never forget,
till I die,
because I love you,
you are too much to forget.

Heroes
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2004
(dedicated to the soldiers who fight for our country)

Heroes come in many shapes and sizes.
Some of our greatest heroes are soldiers.
They fight for our country,
many lose their lives fighting to save us,
but many also survive.
Those who fight for our country,
our many soldiers,
are always
and always will be
heroes.

Friendship
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2004

Friendship,
Why can it be lost, or forgotten,
How can people who were your friends,
Be lost or forgotten,
Why does it hurt,
When you lose a friend,
Especially a close friend,
The pain, unbearably strong,
Sadness so new and fresh,
And a small pang of guilt,
At why you lost your friendship,
Friends come and go,
But you never forget them,
When you are long gone,
Your friends will wonder,
What happened between us,
But it is too late,
Because you’ve moved on,
Life is always changing,
Just like friends,
Always.

Dream
©Caitlin Dunbar, 2004

I sit beneath the moon,
The moonlight spilling on to my book,
As I sit here and read,
I hear water,
Lapping at the shore of the lake,
And the wind blowing through the trees,
As I read,
I think of you,
And wonder if I will ever see you again
You’ve been gone so long,
That I wonder if you were ever really here,
Or if you were only a dream
I hope that I will see you again,
For we had so much fun together
Then I wake up,
And you are here,
With me,
And I know that you will always be here,
With me.
