We want to keep the spirit of
Caitlin's memory alive for years to come. Several organizations are
doing their part to help us. Various fundraising activities have
been planned as well as a couple of poetry contests. Please
support any of the following initiatives in any way you can.
Or, do as Caitlin would do, reach
out and help someone else in need -- volunteer your time and energy
in your community, help feed the hungry, donate blood, lend an ear
to listen or a shoulder to cry upon, or anything else you can think
of. Give freely of yourself and receive love in return.
Thank you.

One of
Caitlin's favorite places was the Girl Scout's Camp Conowingo. She
spent at least one week there every summer for ten years--sometimes
as many as three weeks. One of her goals was to become a counselor
at Camp Conowingo. The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) has
established the Caitlin Dunbar
Nature Center at Camp Conowingo, using funds donated in
Caitlin’s memory. Girls and adults worked together to bring all the
pieces together to create this remarkable memorial to Caitlin. In
order to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, two members of Caitlin's
Girl Scout troop assumed responsibility for the major components of
the Nature Center--Patti managed the Center's interior
design work, while Ashley created the Center's Memorial Garden. Both
girls were responsible for the design, implementation, and funding
of their respective projects. These projects were completed in time
for the Center's June 18, 2006 dedication and grand opening.
The next step is to expand the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center
to encompass GSCM’s three additional camp properties. Donations
continue to be needed and accepted. Please note on your check that
your donation is in memory of Caitlin Dunbar. Your support is
greatly appreciated.

 | Caitlin was a student in the tenth grade at River Hill
High School when she died. The Annual Caitlin Dunbar
Memorial Poetry Contest has been established to recognize
young poets at River Hill HS.
All of the entries will appear on this
site.
The Spring 2005 Dance Concert included a special dance
performance, dedicated to Caitlin, by Caitlin's dance class,
to the tune When I Look to The Sky. Additionally,
River Hill HS planted a weeping cherry tree on the school
grounds in Caitlin's memory. An annual Scholarship has been
established in Caitlin's memory for River Hill High School
Seniors who are working on
their Girl Scout Gold Award Projects. Please make
donations payable to River Hill High School, with Caitlin
Dunbar Memorial Fund noted on the check--this is a tax
deductible charitable donation (see your tax advisor).

 | Caitlin transferred to Fulton Elementary School starting
in the fifth grade. Caitlin's sister, Kristy, currently
attends this school. Similar to River Hill HS, Fulton ES
holds an annual poetry contest in Caitlin's memory. In 2005, the
Caitlin Dunbar Poetry Corner was established in the School's
media center. Additionally, Fulton ES conducted a
fundraiser--"Pennies for Patients"--for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in April 2005; over $4,500 was
collected. At their Spring 2005 Concert, the 4th/5th Grade
Orchestra dedicated a special performance of Over The
Rainbow to Caitlin. Several of Caitlin's high school
friends, along with Fulton Elementary parents, joined the
orchestra for this tune. Our sincerest thanks to the entire
Fulton Elementary School community for their ongoing love
and support.

 | The memorial garden at St. Luke's Episcopal Church is the
final earthly-resting place for Caitlin. As a child, Caitlin
spent many Sundays after church playing on the playground in
back of the church. Her spot in the garden provides her with
an eternal view of children enjoying that same playground.

 | Locks of Love, which began in 1997, has helped
over 1400 children since its first year of operation.
Children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this
a charity where children have an opportunity to help
children.
